On the hunt for vegan-friendly or vegetarian restaurants in Ubud? No worries, I’ve got you covered.
Having soaked up Canggu’s vibe for a bit, I figured it was time to wander around Ubud and scout out its top vegan restaurants.
I’ll be honest, while Canggu remains my top pick for vegan food and has a strong vegan scene, Ubud does have a few hidden treasures up its sleeve. All the restaurants on my list are fully vegan, except for Alchemy, which includes honey on their menu.

#1 Plant Bistro
This wasn’t difficult at all. Plant Bistro in Ubud deserves a separate post, rather than just being at the top of my Top Best Vegan-friendly Restaurants in Ubud list.
Plant Bistro is a fully vegan restaurant that opened in August last year (2023). They are relatively new to the Ubud vegan scene but they surpass every single vegan restaurant, not just in Ubud but in Bali, in my opinion. I know this is a very bold statement, but I stand by it 100%.
Plant Bistro in Ubud serves beautifully crafted Italian and Indonesian dishes. Their Italian chef is vegan herself, and all their dishes are made in-house. So, you can find homemade vegan cheeses, their version of vegan Coca-Cola, vegan Negroni, and much more. The only thing I would mention is that, even though you can find Indonesian dishes on Plant Bistro’s menu, I personally prefer their Italian dishes. I feel there are better places to try authentic Indonesian food that is vegan than in Western restaurants. You can find those restaurants further down my list (e.g., Sawobali and Teratai).”
Plant Bistro is located near the Blanco Museum and boasts a charming view of a small jungle. It’s an ideal spot for a date night, lunch or dinner with friends, brunch, or even business meetings. Additionally, there’s a secluded room available with air conditioning.

#2 Alchemy
Alchemy is a vegan restaurant situated in Penestanan, right in the heart of Ubud. (It’s within walking distance from Plant Bistro.)
Originally, the restaurant offered an entirely raw vegan menu, but they’ve since introduced cooked dishes and also incorporated honey. Consequently, you’ll find ‘beegan’ options on their menu, indicating dishes containing honey.
Personally, I wasn’t initially keen on raw vegan cuisine, but Alchemy pleasantly surprised me. From flax wraps and papaya wraps to raw lasagna, along with cooked offerings like gluten-free vegan waffles and pancakes, medicinal soups, vegan pizzas, and bars, Alchemy’s menu caters to diverse tastes. Moreover, Alchemy prioritises not just taste but also aesthetics, ensuring each dish is Instagram-worthy.
Furthermore, Alchemy provides a great environment for work; amusingly, I find myself writing this post while seated at Alchemy!

#3 Sawobali
Sawobali presents itself as a vegan all-you-can-eat style restaurant, like a vegan buffet. Specialising in Indonesian main courses alongside vegan Indonesian desserts and fruits, Sawobali offers a great place for lunch or dinner.
What sets Sawobali apart is its incredibly affordable pricing – for just 50k IDR (£2.50 // 3.20 US$), you can indulge in as much food as you desire. Yes, it may sound too good to be true, but it’s indeed the case. The only “trick” is that meals must be consumed within the restaurant premises. Additionally, for those craving something extra sweet, Sawobali offers special desserts at an additional cost, typically priced at 15k IDR (£0.75 // 0.95 US$).
While Sawobali’s menu may remain consistent, featuring the same array of dishes, the food is consistently fresh, warm, and replenished frequently. Personally, I find myself dining at Sawobali at least twice a week, and I wholeheartedly recommend paying a visit.

#4 Bella by Sage
Bella by Sage is a vegan restaurant located in Penestanan, amongst other vegan gems. It is a sister restaurant of another vegan restaurant in Ubud called Sage.
Bella serves vegan italian and all the dishes are impeccable.
You can find dishes such as vegan pizza, really good vegan pasta – carbonara, alfredo, mac and cheese and gnocchi, cauliflower wings, salads and a beautiful selection of desserts and tea.
The place can also be used as a working space, as they have an air-conditoned room and also a semi-outdoor area.
Currently, they run a promo – “Join us for Happy Hour every day from 2 pm till 4 pm and get 50 percent off on all our food items.”

#5 Healthy Ubud
Healthy Ubud is a vegan restaurant I mentioned in my Top 10 Best Vegan restaurants in Canggu but it certainly deserves to make the spot in my Top 10 Best Vegan Restaurants in Ubud list too.
The dishes are so simple but very nutritious. You can find vegan poke bowls such as kimchi poke bowl (my absolute favourite), keto poke bowl, vegan burritos, acai bowls and sushi rolls.
Healthy Ubud has another restaurant in Canggu by the same name and it is a great place for lunch or dinner.

#6 Teratai Vegetarian
Despite its name suggesting a vegetarian focus, Teratai stands out as a fully vegan buffet-style restaurant in Ubud. Sharing a similar concept with Sawobali, the difference lies in Teratai’s option for takeaway. The staff is the kindest humans ever and the food is incredible.
Priced at £60k IDR (£3 // 3.85 US$) for an all-you-can-eat feast, you can also request a serving of miso soup included in the price. Teratai’s menu boasts an array of tofu dishes, tempeh delights, vegan curries, and even vegan sushi.
Teratai is conveniently situated within walking distance of Ubud’s largest food shop, Bintang Supermarket, so there is no reason not to visit it on your way to or back from your weekly shopping.

#7 Pizza Cult
I just noticed there are quite a few vegan Italian spots around Ubud, but it’s all good by me.
Bet if you ask anyone who’s been around Ubud for a bit and tried Pizza Cult, they’d probably say it’s their go-to for vegan pizza. And honestly, I agree.
Pizza Cult usually does this deal from 12pm to 3pm where you buy one pizza and get another free. Here’s a tip: order two pizzas with four different toppings (one pizza split in half with two different toppings) combined as one. So if you’re sharing, you get to try four kinds for the price of one. Definitely worth checking out, right?

#8 Moksa
Moksa is a vegan restaurant in Ubud that markets itself as a “Plant-based restaurant, permaculture garden & holistic learning space.” Their menu caters to both raw and cooked food preferences, making it an ideal choice for those on a raw vegan diet.
The restaurant provides both outdoor and indoor seating, nestled in a centre of lush greenery and near picturesque rice paddies.
Among my top picks from Moksa’s menu are the Incredible Curry Tofu (green tofu curry), Garden Fillet Mignon, Asam Laksa Noodle, and Tempeh Ribs. And don’t overlook the desserts – the Sweet Symphony and Banana Split are ones I’d happily indulge in repeatedly.

#9 Zest
If you’ve ever searched for vegan restaurants in Ubud, I’m sure you’ve come across Zest. It’s one of the oldest vegan spots in town, and it offers more than just food. Zest also serves as a venue for various events and ceremonies, including kirtan, tea ceremonies, cacao ceremonies and ecstatic dance. You can find more details about their event schedule on their website.
Since this post is primarily about food, let’s focus on the menu. I was particularly impressed by their vegan sushi and avocado bruschetta. However, I wouldn’t personally recommend the pho, but that’s just my opinion. While the food is good, I feel that the appeal might be more about the atmosphere and popularity of the place rather than the actual dishes. Nonetheless, it’s definitely worth a visit, although my expectations were perhaps a bit too high, the food still proved to be enjoyable.

#10 Sayuri Healing Food
Sayuri is a fully vegan restaurant in Ubud, a walking distance from Sawobali restaurant that I mentioned.
It offers raw vegan meals alongside cooked vegan dishes. All the food is very rich in taste and quite flavourful. Find vegan sushi, beautifully crafted health bowls, vegan burgers, smoothie bowls. They also have vegan desserts on display so it’s hard to pass by those delicious vegan creations and not taste any.
Sayuri also runs their own ‘Sayuri Food Academy’ offering raw vegan chef training. In case you would be interested in trying it, head to their website.
