It’s that time of the year again – Christmas is around the corner, and so are the Christmas markets. If you’re on the lookout for vegan delights, I’ve got your back. Here’s the lowdown on the vegan-friendly Christmas markets in London for 2023.

Vegan-friendly Christmas markets in London for 2023

  1. South Bank Winter Market
  2. Winter Wonderland Hyde Park
  3. Borough Market
  4. Greenwich Christmas Market
  5. Spitalfields Christmas Market
  6. Trafalgar Square Christmas Market
  7. Camden Christmas Market
  8. Covent Garden Christmas Market

#1 South Bank Winter Christmas Market

South Bank Christmas Market is one of my favourite vegan-friendly Christmas markets in London, particularly because the set-up is only during the Christmas season, so you can’t find it the rest of the year.

Stretching along the Thames, the Southbank Christmas Market is a fantastic place to be if you’re seeking vegan treats and delicious vegan food. Amidst the festive ambience, you can explore stalls that specifically offer vegan-friendly delights, such as vegan sweets, hot dogs, burgers, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and my absolute favourite – vegan apple or berry crumble with super delicious vegan custard from Humble Crumble.

The South Bank Christmas Market is located near the London Eye and Tate Modern, allowing you to do some sightseeing or even visit the museum before exploring the market.

#2 Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is one of the most famous and another one of my absolute favourite vegan-friendly Christmas Markets in London, but I would say it’s more of a fair than a market.

While strolling around, you can grab vegan mulled wine, vegan candyfloss, vegan doughnuts, burgers, and other vegan fast food. As mentioned, it is not just a market, so you can awaken your inner child and go on fair rides such as rollercoasters, visit the haunted house, ice skate at ice rinks, have some delicious cold drinks at the Ice Bar, and much more.

Note that entry to the Winter Wonderland is free during off-peak hours or £5 – £7.50 during peak times. Rides and showings come at an extra cost.

#3 Borough Market – Christmas Market

Unlike the South Bank Christmas market, Borough Market is active throughout the year, but it becomes special with all the Christmas lights and Christmas specialities like mulled wine, Christmas decorations, and food.

From hearty vegan mains to incredibly tasty vegan sweet treats, the market has become a vegan-friendly Christmas market that caters to all tastes.

In case you miss the South Bank Christmas market, Humble Crumble also has a base in Borough Market, so do not forget to try their vegan crumble. (Not sponsored, just obsessed.) Note that the queues can be massive, but it will be worth the wait!

Borough Market’s atmosphere is vibrant, and the commitment to providing diverse vegan options makes Borough Market a must-visit for those looking to indulge in cruelty-free delights.

#4 Greenwich Christmas Market

Greenwich Christmas Market is not just a history lesson, especially during the holidays. The place becomes a total vegan Christmas haven where you can enjoy vegan mulled wine, vegan chocolate, vegan waffles, vegan pancakes, vegan churros, and other vegan dishes.

Besides vegan food, you can also find beautiful, sustainable Christmas gifts that are usually either handmade or crafted with a lot of love (or both). If you haven’t done your Christmas shopping just yet, it is always better to support small businesses and get your Christmas gifts from either second-hand shops around the market or get them at Greenwich Christmas Market.

#5 Spitalfields Christmas Market

For those craving an indie and eclectic vibe and vegan-friendly stalls, the Spitalfields Christmas Market is your go-to destination. The whole Christmas atmosphere is very laid-back and there is a plethora of vegan options. From tempting plant-based street food to artisanal vegan cheeses, the market boasts an impressive array.

The commitment to providing diverse and quality vegan offerings contributes to its charm. It’s not just a market; it’s a celebration of all things vegan, making it an ideal spot to satisfy your plant-based cravings.

#6 Trafalgar Square Christmas Market

Trafalgar Square Christmas Market is another Christmas market that pops up just during Christmas times. Also, in case you were wondering if London has an official Christmas tree, the answer is yes. It is located in Trafalgar Square and is a part of their Christmas Market.

“The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is usually a Norwegian spruce (Picea abies) over 20 metres high and 50 to 60 years old. It is selected from the forests surrounding Oslo with great care several months, even years, in advance. The Norwegian foresters who look after it describe it fondly as ‘the queen of the forest’.”

As with most of the other Christmas Markets in London, you can enjoy vegan treats and vegan mains. Vegan mulled wine, ciders, and many more. In case you haven’t done your Christmas shopping, don’t panic. Supporting local businesses at the market is always a better option than supporting fast fashion brands or big companies.

#7 Camden Christmas Market

As someone who loves exploring diverse markets, Camden Market, known for its eclectic mix of stalls, has embraced the vegan wave this Christmas.

The market’s narrow alleys unfold as a treasure trove for those like me seeking vegan versions of global cuisines.

It’s not just about the food; it’s a culinary journey that broadens my plant-based palate. The market’s commitment to diversity and innovation makes it my standout destination for vegans during the holiday season.

Camden Market is not just a marketplace; it’s my exploration of vegan flavours in a vibrant and culturally rich environment.

“Join us this festive season to meet Santa and his elves in the grotto every Saturday, be entertained by balloon modellers and face painters and try a series of special dishes. Head to North Yard to see a polar bear explore North Yard, experience pop-up performances, and hear DJs every Thursday through December”

#8 Covent Garden Christmas Market

Covent Garden must be one of those fairy-tale-looking markets. Covent Garden looks dreamy throughout the year, but add some of that Christmas magic and bam! Magic awakened.

“For the first time in almost a decade, Covent Garden has introduced a brand new Christmas installation inspired by traditional golden bells. Visit Covent Garden’s world-famous Christmas lights with over 40 gigantic bells with bows, 12 giant baubles and 8 spinning mirror balls, all displayed in our iconic Market Building”

You can find vegan festive menus and vegan gift ideas. From vegan mulled wine, to organic, natural and cruelty-free cosmetics and vegan treats.
