Top 8 Best Vegan-friendly Sushi Restaurants in Bali

Vegan Sushi in Bali is no anomaly. The island is full of wonderful vegan finds, so the next on my vegan food to-do list was vegan sushi.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or have taken a scroll, you might have noticed that my most popular blog post is ‘Best Vegan-friendly Sushi Restaurants in London.’ Inspired by that, after spending some time in Bali, I wanted to share the best vegan-friendly sushi restaurants in Bali

Over the past 6 months, I’ve sampled various vegan and vegetarian sushi rolls in Bali, shaping this blog post to help you discover the best gems.

Some of the restaurants are fully vegan and some offer vegan sushi options.

  1. Plant Bistro (Ubud)
  2. Tygr Sushi (Canggu & Ubud)
  3. Yuki Bali (Canggu & Uluwatu)
  4. The Black Box Provisions (Canggu)
  5. Healthy Ubud (Ubud & Canggu)
  6. Zest (Ubud)
  7. Chickpea (Uluwatu)
  8. Lazy Cats Cafe (Ubud)

#1 Plant Bistro – Ubud

Plant Bistro is a hidden gem in Ubud. I might dare to say that you’ll find the best vegan and vegetarian sushi on the island at Plant Bistro. I’d even go so far as to claim that I haven’t managed to find vegan sushi as good as that served at Plant Bistro anywhere else I’ve visited. This might sound a bit extreme, but rest assured, I don’t make such statements lightly.

The vegan sushi at Plant Bistro is heavenly, delicious, creative, filling, mouthwatering, and, did I mention, delicious?

Plant Bistro’s sushi menu comprises nigiri and maki rolls. Nigiri options include Mushroom and Toona nigiri, while maki rolls feature Toona & Avocado, Spicy Tuna, Bell Pepper & Jackfruit Toona, and Avocado and Mushroom. I wish I could pick a favourite, but they’re all incredible. Plant Bistro even serves its own in-house-made vegan caviar.

#2 Tygr Sushi – Canggu & Ubud

Tygr Sushi is a vegan-friendly sushi restaurant in Bali. They have multiple locations in Canggu and one located in central Ubud. I first discovered it when I took my friend for sushi at their Tygr Berawa location and they did not disappoint. The exterior is Japanese-inspired and their vegan sushi is amazing. Besides vegan maki rolls and vegan nigiri, I also tried their krispy rice nigiri, vegan bao buns, vegan ramen and vegan mochi.

I keep coming back for their vegan ramen and vegan sushi more often than not.

Price: ££

Location: Canggu and Berawa & Ubud

#3 Yuki Bali – Canggu & Uluwatu

Yuki Bali is a modern Japanese spot and has two restaurants so far. One is based in Canggu and their newly opened restaurant is in Uluwatu. Yuki Bali doesn’t have a very extensive vegan menu but a couple of vegan sushi rolls are enough to lure you in. Vegan sushi at Yuki is high-quality and incredibly tasty. Their watermelon tuna nigiri is something else. Besides vegan sushi, you can find edamame, ponzu watermelon ponzu with sriracha mayo and sushi rice served in hard shell tacos (‘Nori ahi Taco’), Teriyaki pumpkin, cucumber salad and charred green veggies.

Yuki Bali is on a pricey side (in comparison to other Bali restaurants) but it is a great place for celebrations, a girl’s night out or a date night.

#4 The Black Box Provisions

The Black Box Provisions is a sushi restaurant in Canggu, Bali. Their Google description says: “Tranquil restaurant offering Japanese, Korean & Vietnamese dishes.” It is not fully vegan but their vegan menu tastes divine. There is no bland roll and no lack of creativity. I haven’t visited the restaurant itself but I had 5 different sushi rolls delivered to me as a takeaway.

The restaurant offers an incredible variety of vegan sushi, so do not miss it.

Location: Canggu

#5 Healthy Ubud – Ubud & Canggu

Healthy Ubud serves very simple but very tasty vegan sushi. They don’t offer much variety but you can rest assured the taste will be impeccable.

They always run different promos so you can get a big Buddha bowl paired with sushi rolls. Is there a better combo?

Healthy Ubud has two locations, one in Ubud and one in Canggu (it goes by the same name).

Location: Canggu & Ubud

#6 Zest – Ubud

I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of Zest, a vegan restaurant located in central Ubud that serves a plethora of vegan dishes. From their all-day breakfast bowls to salads, delicious pizza, burgers, cakes, and vegan sushi in between.

Zest has a couple of vegan sushi rolls but I tried Jackfruit Tuna and avocado and Smoked capsicum and broccoli roll.

Fully vegan: Yes

Price: ££

Location: Ubud

#7 Chickpea – Uluwatu

Chickpea restaurant in Uluwatu is the only restaurant on my list that serves vegan sushi burrito instead of rolls. I still wanted to add it to my vegan sushi in Bali list as it was quite interesting and tasty. The portion was quite big so you won’t leave the place hungry. They serve vegan sushi burrito with vegan mayo and soy sauce on the side.

Price: ££

Location: Uluwatu

#8 Lazy Cats Cafe – Ubud

The last one on my list is Lazy Cats Cafe located in Ubud, close to Campuhan Ridge Walk. My idea would be to go for a walk and replenish your lost energy with a beautiful tray of vegan sushi at the Lazy Cats Cafe. That doesn’t sound too shabby, eh?

Lazy Cats Cafe is a vegan-friendly cafe, quite aesthetic and very Instagram-worthy. I tried a couple of vegan dishes at their restaurant but sushi was actually the best vegan item on the menu. It is filling, bursts with flavour and is quite creative.

Price: ££
